MSLA Members will be receiving a postcards to send to Legislators:

Dear Representative ________________________________,

On Thursday, March 8, the Massachusetts School Library Association is holding its third annual Legislative Day with an exhibition in the Grand Staircase at the State House in Boston.   At 10:30 a.m. will present awards to the student winners of this year’s statewide bookmark contest.  Perhaps one of your constituents will be a first prize winner!  As a school library teacher in your district, I would like to invite you to stop by and see how school library teachers add value to education in Massachusetts.  Over 16 studies demonstrate that strong school library programs make a measurable difference in student achievement.

I would also like to ask your support for bill 2298, currently under study by the Education Committee, which would add the words "libraries" and "books" to the Education Reform laws.  This simple change would allow the Department of Education to set standards and policies for our state's school library programs.  For more information, please see our website http://www.maschoolibraries.org/.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

Directions for MSLA members:
