An annual award of $750.00 has been established by Massachusetts School Library Association in memory of Ellen Berne who, as a member of our organization, saw the potential of the internet as an instructional tool when the technology was still in its infancy.
As the library media specialist at the Winsor School in Boston, she was a pioneer in integrating the internet into the learning process. She actively and enthusiastically shared her ideas and insights with colleagues around the Commonwealth. This award serves as a memorial to her leadership and inspiration. Purpose: Through this annual award, MSLA recognizes the efforts of a library teacher who has designed a project that effectively demonstrates a commitment to integrate the internet and information literacy skills with content learning standards. Project: The internet-based project submitted for consideration must include creative and innovative elements that will serve as an exemplary model to library teachers throughout the Commonwealth.
