The holidays are behind us now and we are settling into the New Year and facing the long run until the next break. What we would really like you to do is to take a look around at yourself and your colleagues and what you all are doing in their libraries. Is there someone out there doing great things but maybe is “under the radar?” After all, we are generally alone in our buildings, and these days, we may be the sole library professional in our districts. We need to rally together to toot our collective horns.
With the new timetable for the MSLA conference, we have extra time to really take a look at what we and our counterparts are doing that set us apart from the pack. Take a look at the requirements for any of the awards with which we honor people at our annual conference and see how your program measures up. What could you do in your library that would enable us to give you an award in Hyannis in March 2012? Or who could you nominate for an award?
Keep these things in mind as you renew yourself and your program for 2011.
