School Recertification: The Massachusetts Library System is going to begin its recertification of school librarians this fall. This process confirms that a certified school librarian is in place in a member school. We will need updated information, including DESE certification title and expiration date. With over 1000 school members, it is expected to roll out in stages. MLS will alert via both the MLS Announcements list and MSLA discussion list. Information about membership is at

Statewide Databases for patrons:  Proposals for the statewide database RFR were due November 1st.  The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and Massachusetts Library System are coordinating on this initiative, which will result in consistent access to more statewide resources for all residents. We are considering the follow types of content:

General, Newspapers, Encyclopedias, Language Learning, and Genealogy

Last year patrons downloaded over 9 million articles from state funded databases; this will most likely triple in the current year.

Value of Service MLS is working on its Value of Service to our member libraries. Library types will be provided with the monetary value of MLS programs and services.
